Dear Twitter : Why did you suspend me?

D

Twitter censor free speechWITH NO REASON, NO WARNING, NO REMORSE, Twitter suspended my freedom of speech,  permanently. Why?

The Weaponization of the Federal Government

On May 18th, I listened to the complete hearing on the Weaponization of the Federal Government conducted by the House Select Subcommittee. There were many references to Twitter and Facebook censoring people the FBI and the Justice Department don’t like. As I listened, I made notes, took screen shots, and analyzed what the whistle blowers were saying, and what the representatives were saying — both Democrat and Republican. I later published a series of Memes on Twitter in which i expressed the abhorrent way Democrat representatives acted. They were there to investigate and question the weaponization of the FBI against Americans, not support it.

Your Account is SuspendedThe next day, the 60-Second account had been suspended. It did not say why, it just said it was suspended. Did they actually conduct a “careful review”?   Who knows? There was no hate speech, there was no violence or profanity. The only thing we could find in their terms is what Twitter interprets as “spam.”  According to Twitter, spam is when you repeat a link multiple times.

There was a highlighted link that said “… you can appeal our decision” …

So here’s what I wrote. . . .

An Open Letter To Twitter :

The reason we believe the 60-Seconds account should be reinstated is because we were actually following a long established internet protocol, of crediting the source of the news story.

When the internet first began gaining popularity, the rule was to credit or notate the source of the information being shared. Some years later, Google was invented and Google then doubled down on the protocol. We credited the link in every meme so that the informed Twitter user could go and see the entry for themselves. Evidently Twitter didn’t like that. Nowhere in the terms does Twitter specify the terms or reasons for the links, only “multiple” links.

Each of our completely different messages revealed an excerpt from a long complicated event, in each of those messages, we included the resource link.  (Which, incidentally, we have included below.)

IT WAS NOT SPAMMING. It does NOT conform to the definition of SPAM.

  • It is NOT unsolicited bulk commercial email
  • It was NOT intended to defraud anyone
  • It was not committed to compromise a computer or spread predatory tags
  • It was NOT for commercial gain or revenue (“clickbait”)

Yes, 60-Seconds interpretation and reactions to those hearings may not be in alignment with the main stream ideology or narrative. We observed the events as logical people — and most intelligent people would share the same observations in each of those posts.

The same series has gained thousands of “likes” on other social media platforms. Many people in the industry have been shocked that we were suspended for that reason, in light of Elon Musk’s new commitment to free speech.

We believe 60-Seconds is a victim of an outdated, anti-free-speech, automated algorithm on Twitter that automatically suspends people without reason or  understanding what is the context of the content.

60 Seconds has been an editorial column by Fred Showker since 1987. 60-Seconds has had many readers and followers across the internet for nearly 40 years. 60 Seconds does not deserve to be cancelled because of Twitter’s failure to understand intent. No account should be cancelled for having an opinion differing from the current main stream narrative — or for content which doesn’t agree with the regime. This suspension is clearly a violation of the freedom of speech.

If you refer this directly to Elon Musk, I believe, seriously, he will agree with each of those points, and reinstate the 60-Seconds account.

Thank you for your interest, regards,

Fred ShowkerI guess we’ll have to wait for their response — if a response ever comes, we’ll post it here!

. . . and thanks for reading!
